CMF Critical
Milestone Reached – 20 NICUs Established
We would like to share some great news with you!
We have finally reached our target and
established 20 Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs)
in China. All are situated in rural areas and
created in hospitals where none previously
exist. This program directly addresses the
unusually high neonatal mortality rates seen in
rural China ranging from 3% to 20% compared with
the national average of 1.07% in 2007. Each NICU
on average saves the lives of 800 newborns per
year; in aggregate we save 16,000 newborns per
year with the support of generous donors like
you.
Our next step is to create the CMF NICU Network
which will further enhance and improve the level
of neonatology in China. To inaugurate, we will
hold an NICU Conference on the 25th &
26th of April 2009 in order to build
the network between our 20 NICUs and provide
resources to increase efficacy, improve
standards and bring international expertise to
neonatal practices in China, thereby continually
upgrading neonatal care in our partner hospitals
and saving more children’s lives.
